Anabolic Metabolism for Men and Women: losing weight/sexuality

Posted on Feb 2nd, 2009 by CPinckley : Author/Teacher Spirituality CPinckley

Having trouble losing weight, no matter what you do?  Feeling sluggish, not getting enough sleep, have aches and pains in your body, or having trouble with your sexual functionality?  If you have one or a couple of these things it's quite possible that you have developed a vicious cycle in your metabolism that has been induced by the build up of the stress hormone cortisol.

There is a growing trend in America right now which most people are largely unaware of, it's called "catabolic breakdown".  Catabolic breakdown means "breakdown/degeneration" and is also referred to as "catabolic metabolism".  It's counterpart is known as "anabolic metabolism" and is denoted by "build up/repair", which refers to a metabolic state of being where your body can build up and repair itself.  In a catabolic metabolism you may experience one more all of the previously mentioned symptoms, in which your body literally starts to breakdown and degenerate.  It's a slow, insidious process that may take several years before you notice.  Many people experiencing these symptoms will mistakenly think that it is part of the aging process, only to realize later that something is not right.

What is anabolic?

The word "anabolic" is largely misunderstood.  This is understandible because every time it makes the news the word "steroids" is attached to it.  It's actual meaning is "build up/repair" in that when your body is in an anabolic state of being, you are feeling healthy and vital.  You are also probably in good hormonal health when your body is anabolic.  Anabolic steroids are known for their ability to exponentiate this effect, thus creating a greater level of build up/repair.  The problem with anabolic steroids is that when the person goes off of them, which is inevitable, the lack of anabolic hormones can create a catabolic state where the muscle begins to atrophy away.  Thus, it's possible to see all of the muscle you have worked so hard to develop while utilizing steriods, whither away into nothing when you quit using them.

The signs of a healthy, anabolic metabolism

If you are in an anabolic, or healthy metabolism, there are certain things that you can expect to experience within your body.

You can expect:

1)To have a healthy libido(your sex drive is active).

2)To be able to lose weight if you exercise.

3)To be able to digest food with relative ease.

4)To be able to recover from minor injuries, and perhaps major ones in a short amount of time.

5)To be relatively pain free concerning most of the joints in your body.

6)To be able to fall asleep at night, and stay asleep.

7)To wake in the morning feeling well rested.

8)To have good skin tone and healthy hair(a bit of luster to both).

9)To have energy to get through the day.

10)To experience a general sense of well being, emotionally.

11)To experience muscle and strength gains if you workout with weights.

How do I know if I have a
catabolic metabolism?

Conversely, you can expect to experience virtually the opposite of the above mentioned signs and symptoms if your body is in a state of catabolic breakdown.

Some of the signs include:

1)Lack of sex drive, unhealthy libido.

2)Difficulty losing weight, even if you workout regularly.

3)Feel tired a good portion of the time.

4)Feel out of breath going up a set of stairs.

5)Aches and pains in your body, ie; knees, lower back, neck, shoulders, wrists.

6)Difficulty digesting sugars and carbs(rice, pasta, bread, fruit juice).  These items create instant water retention for someone in catabolic metabolim.

7)Difficulty sleeping, or falling back asleep if you wake up.  Do not feel well rested in the morning even if you slept.

8)Difficulty building lean muscle mass when you workout with weights.

9)Feel lethargic or have chronic fatigue.

10)Overall sense of unease and nervousness.

11)Potential to have constipation.

12)Unhealthy or dry skin and hair loss, vellus hair.

The causes of catabolic breakdown/metabolism

The causes of catabolic breakdown are pretty straight forward.  Generally speaking, it's anything that causes the buildup of cortisol in your system.  Your adrenal glands are these little life giving balls of flesh located on the tips of your kidneys.  They are responsible for most of the hormones in your body, including DHEA, Testosterone, Estrogen, and indirectly for Growth Hormone.  But they also secrete Cortisol as well.

Cortisol has it's benefits, it helps to prepare your body for action-fight or flight.  However, most people are not in need of fight or flight all of the time.  If anything, most people need to relax and breathe a little more.  But what happens if someone is in fight or flight all of the time?  The answer is that the adrenal glands are triggered to secrete more and more cortisol into the blood stream until the body is flooded with this accelerated aging hormone.

The primary causes of catabolic breakdown in order of likelihood to your daily life:

1)Coffee

2)Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi

3)Lack of sleep(explained below)

4)alcohol(yes, even red wine and microbrewed beer)

5)Stress over deadlines and finances

6)Poor solid food diet(too many sugars, fats, and carbs-not enough leafy greens)

7)Overworked body, physically speaking

8)Neurosis(although this is usually caused by one of the above)

Many of these items are interelated with one another, such as it makes it difficult to pinpoint the beginning of the cycle.  However, in general whatever is causing you physical and emotional stress is what is causing your catabolic breakdown.

Sleep, the anti-aging miracle

One thing is certain, that you can do some pretty horendous things to your body and still be healthy as long as you always get good quality sleep.  Such is the healing and restorative power of the deepest level of sleep that it can, by itself, reverse catabolic breakdown.  However, most people(even those that think they are getting 'enough' sleep) do not get the quality sleep that they need to reverse this process.

For starters, if you are drinking coffee(and I don't care how much), there is a very high degree of likelihood that you do not get the quality of sleep you really need.  You may even achieve 8 hours of sleep, but not get the deepest level of rest that your body needs.  One of the most important anti-aging things happens at night when you sleep, your adrenals trigger your pituitary to secrete GH or growth hormone.  This hormone occurs in small levels within your blood stream throughout the day, but is secreted in greater amounts when you sleep at night.  It's supposed to, but often times does not get secreted because your body has to be in deep sleep for this to happen.

Growth Hormone

Growth hormone is the body's primary anti-aging hormone.  Without growth hormone, life becomes increasingly difficult and unfun.  This is because GH actively fights the aging process and keeps you vital, full of life.  Without it, your body starts to become unable to repair and re-energize itself.  You will also become glucose intolerant with the lack of sleep and GH.  This means that you will begin having trouble digesting sugars of all kinds and the biggest symptom of this is instant water retention upon consumption of the afore mentioned.

To get proper GH secretion into your blood stream you need good quality sleep.  To get good quality sleep you need to quit or reduce your caffeine intake.  And, reduce your overall stress level.

The ways to combat catabolic breakdown and promote anabolic metabolism

1)Quit drinking coffee, perhaps switch to green tea(although this has caffeine too-but is better for you).

2)Quit drinking diet coke or diet pepsi.  Sorry, but this is a catabolic nightmare.

3)Reduce alcohol consumption.  Generally, it's the hard alcohol that really interferes with sleep and anabolic metabolism.  But, people can abuse wine and beer as well and induce catabolic metabolism.

4)Prioritize your sleep.  Period.  Your sleep is how you recharge and repair your adrenal glands.  Without them, you will accelerate your aging process.  Also, you need deep sleep to secrete GH.  GH has been referred to as "the elixir of life".

5)Begin to exercise regularly.  Regular exercise has been proven to increase GH levels in your blood as well as reduce cortisol.  The only exception is obssessive/compulsive exercising hours a day, every day.  This has a reverse effect.

6)Clean your diet up.  Less or no chocolate, less or not saturated fat, less or no sugar.  Eat more greens, less breads, pastas, rices.

7)If you have done all of the above and still have trouble, then I recommend meditation.  Proper meditation has been proven to effectively induce anti-aging.

A new lease on life

This process very well may require you to revamp your priorities in life.  What is your health and well being worth?  As an author and trainer I have had to address this question with myself as well.  At one point, I was drinking large amounts of coffee and eating a lot of garbage.  I just sort of banked on my regular exercise and incredible metabolism to carry me through.  But, with enough abuse, anybody can go into catabolic breakdown.  Studies have shown that all you need is to not get enough sleep for 4 nights in a row to reduce the regular production of GH in your blood stream.  This shows me that sleep is all important and that anything that hinders your sleep should be eliminated from your daily routine.

If you execute the above mentioned items, you will assuredly experience a positive shift in your physical body.  It may take some time, but you will eventually experience more energy, easier weight loss, an increased sex drive, and a new feeling of well being.  Begin now to make the necessary, life giving changes that you deserve

Turning a negative into a positive

Posted on Jan 8th, 2009 by CPinckley : Author/Teacher Spirituality CPinckley
In my opinion Bruce Lee said it best when he said, "Be like water". He explained how water can be as hard as steel, and yet it has the ability to flow under, around, and through any obstacle.

When confronted with an obstacle, what do you do? Often times we allow ourselves to be blocked by this thing or situation or person. And yet, there is always a way around it or a solution or an answer or an agreement that can be made/achieved/received. In order to flow around a situtation you may be required to do something else amazing, you may be required to become bigger than your problems. That's what T. Harv Eker says in his breakthrough book "Secrets of the Millionaire Mind". He says "become bigger than your problems".

A lot of people allow a single problem to become central to their reality creation. In other words, this problem becomes the sole focus of their attention. They are consumed by this problem and sure enough, the rest of their reality creation begins to suffer. Soon enough your relationship, your finance, your career, your spiritual practice, your physical health may become infected by this one problem that has consumed your consciousness.

Instead, be like water and flow through your problem, thus becoming bigger than your problem.

Let's just say that you suddenly can't pay the rent this month, which actually happened to a good friend of mine who was laid off work. Now, this is a nasty business because many people are finding themselves in this situation right now. However, my friend decided that she was going to use this opportunity to decide what she really wanted in life. She decided that the reason this happened was so that she could change careers and do something more fulfilling.

She wanted to sell artwork on EBay, not sit in an office selling insurance all day. So, she went for it, heart and soul. Amazingly, she sold two of her paintings right off the bat, just enough to make rent. Now, she wasn't living the dream life yet because all she had in the cupbord was "Sav More Mac n' Cheese"-BUT she was more fulfilled than ever before in her life. And, can you guess what happens to someone who is feeling really really excited and greatful??? They become magnetic to the people, places, and things that they need in order to achieve great success. Indeed, she did and has now sold another five of her paintings.

She was able to turn a negative(being laid off from work) into a positive(being a paid artist). And, she did this by becoming bigger than her problems. She didn't leave her focus on the rent, she was able to rise above that to see a larger picture.

Can you rise above your current situation to see a larger picture? Can you turn the negative that may be in front of you right now into a positive? Can you be like water and flow through, under, or around your perceived problem? In my opinion, that's what this New Year is all about. It's about rising above and becoming bigger than your problems so that you will realize ultimate success, success above and beyond what you had previously realized for yourself.

Have you created your day lately?

Posted on Oct 23rd, 2008 by CPinckley : Author/Teacher Spirituality CPinckley

When, if ever, is the last time you sat down and decided consciously how you wanted your day to be?

Do you remember you or anyone can do this?

You can begin the process either the night before, or the morning of.  How do you want your day to be?  Who do you want to interact with?  How do you want that business deal to go?  What do you wish to create?

Creating your day:
1)meditate with your eyes closed for five minutes(or 15) first
2)Visualize yourself in your day tomorrow/this morning, see yourself interacting with people, places, and situations.
3)Now, decide how you want it to go, visualize everyone smiling-as if everyone benefits from all of the interactions that you are in this day.
4)Is your body healing just a little more today too?  Then visualize that, give yourself the command that your body will heal exactly 15% tomorrow/today.
5)Do you allow yourself to make an unexpected amount of money?  If so, visualize yourself very suprised and excited to receive it.
6)Did you meet someone special today?  Or, is it just that everyone you meet today is special?  Visualize it.

Build it, construct it, take advantage of the matrix.  Own it, own your reality.  Quit looking outside of yourself for the answers, they have been with you and within you all along.

Blessings!

The Mass Mind Fear/Create Your Own Reality

Posted on Oct 1st, 2008 by CPinckley : Author/Teacher Spirituality CPinckley

Hello friends, just sending out a friendly reminder here...

What do you want?  Are you able to remember, during these trying times, that where your attention goes your energy flows?  Tis a fact, to be sure.  Focus on economic collapse, and you will be drawn and guided to begin to create that for yourself.  Focus on creating what you want, and you will be drawn and guided to create that for yourself instead.

As you focus upon a thing, you freeze it in space/time and it actually begins to expand within your consciousness.  As it expands within your consciousness, you become more magnetic to things of like vibration to the this state of consciousness that you are frozen within.  Eventually, after focussuing upon it for long enough, you will create a reality to match this state of consciousness.

My advice?  Turn off the TV, quit watching the news, don't read about the stock market.  In other words, tune out the fear based media of The Mass Mind.  The masses are plugged in, busily creating a very fear based limiting reality for themselves.  This does not mean that you need to participate.  In fact, you could decide that you want to be a shining example for all the people around you and demonstrate the ability to transcend limited thinking.

This does not mean ignore an obvious physical reality in front of you, something that needs your attention and a certain amount of physical action.  It does mean do not focus upon the things that create fear and limitation.  Focus instead upon the things that bring joy, happiness, peace, laughter, FUN!  What do you want?  What do YOU want?

I want unlimited abundance.  I want prosperity.  I want harmonious interactions all day.  I want Divine Right Action.  I want to achieve ultimate success.  I want to experience the bliss of total peace.  These things sound good to you?  They do to me!

Release, Let Go, and Allow

Posted on Aug 14th, 2008 by CPinckley : Author/Teacher Spirituality CPinckley
Fear, suspicion, and doubt are the primary weapons of the ego.  The ego uses these tools as a means for separation, which is it's means for survival.  If you were to integrate yourself into Oneness, there would be no more ego.  It knows this and thus utilizes your own emotional wounds and limiting beliefs to keep certain people, places, and events at bay.

Instead of looking at the world through fearful, suspicious eyes, try creating one day this week from a heart centered place of love and trust.  You needn't throw yourself blindly to the wind trusting every single person whom approaches you, however you can allow yourself to release fear and doubt-that you may be able to actually let yourself to interact with certain people.

When you are approaching people on the sidewalk or at the coffee shop, the ego will already be helping you to size them up.  By the time they are within a foot of you the ego has already helped you to estimate their net-worth, their physical appeal, and/or even whether they are a good person or not.  The ego loves this way of life because it is full of value judgments which assure it's continued survival.

An idea, if you will.  Try utilizing emotional release techniques to release and allow your way past the ego.  If there is a person or situation in your life that causes you immediate anger, jealousy, fear, suspicion, doubt, envy, or whatever the case may be-it is also a gateway to heal that part of yourself.  If you have the courage to attempt to release these feelings you will see that they were only illusions to begin with.  They are your own past, continuously creating and recreating itself over and over again.  It's like living inside of an invisible prison with invisible bars, that you do not even know that you are trapped inside of.

Exercise:

1)Take a deep breath, close your eyes, and relax.

2)Now, ask yourself if you could allow yourself to feel as strongly as you possibly can, the feelings that you have about this person?

3)Allow yourself to sit and be with this for a moment, then answer ‘yes' or ‘no'.

4)Next, ask yourself if you could let this go?  Just for a moment, could you just let it go?  Be emotionally honest with yourself, ‘yes' or ‘no' is fine, does not matter.

5)Now ask yourself, would you be willing to let this go?

6)Now ask yourself, when would you let this go?

7)This entire process usually only takes 2-3 minutes.  You may repeat it as many times as needed or until the emotion has been released.

Don't be surprised if you allow yourself to experience new people, places, and events after you do these exercises...maybe even after only one time!  Just like peeling the layers of the onion, do not be fooled, this is a journey and there are always more layers to peel.

Love,

C
